We will accept referee and sponsor letters by email until February 15. Referees may send letters and ratings (from A to E) directly to us at letters@jccfund.org. Sponsor letters may also be sent to the same address. Please paste the contents of your letter inside the body of your email.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

These are frequently asked questions about the online application process.

WHEN DOES THE APPLICATION PERIOD OPEN AND CLOSE? The on-line application process is open October 1, 2013 for grants due Feb 1 of the next year. The application period closes Feb 1, 2014 at 5:00pm EST.

DOES THE FUND PROVIDE INDIRECT COST TO THE INSTITUTE? No indirect cost are paid.

WHEN WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF I HAVE BEEN AWARDED A FELLOWSHIP?The review board generally meets late April early May. Applicants retained for the second review will be notified by email in April. Those applicants not held for the second review will also receive an email in April notifying them that their application has not been retained for review. 

At the end of April beginning of May those applicants that have been selected to receive an award will be notified by phone. Those applicants from the second review will be notified by email that they have not been selected.

CAN THE RESEARCH ALLOWANCE BE USED FOR TRAVEL?No, there are separate Funds that are awarded to the Fellow. Check the Travel Expense Report Policy for more information.

CAN THE RESEARCH ALLOWANCE BE USED FOR HEALTH INSURANCE?Yes, the research allowance may be used for health insurance. The use of the research allowance is to be decided by the Fellow and his/her sponsor.

CAN THE RESEARCH ALLOWANCE BE CARRIED OVER FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT?Yes the research allowance can be carried forward from one year to the next.  Please have the appropriate person at the Institute email the fund and request that the research allowance be carried forward.  At the end of the Fellowship, if there are funds left they are to be returned to The Jane Coffin Childs Fund.

WHAT IS THE FUND’S PATENT POLICY? The patent policy adopted by the Board of Managers adheres to the policy of the institution. The policy is outlined on the Fellowship Information page of this site.

WHAT IF I CAN’T SEND IN THE CERTIFICATION PAGE WITH MY APPLICATION?If you are having difficulty getting the required signatures from the Sponsoring Institute, submit the application without the certification page (to meet the February 1 deadline) your application will not be considered incomplete.  We will accept the certification page at a later date.  This page must be received by the Fund prior to any award being initiated.

WHEN ARE MY SPONSOR AND REFERENCE LETTERS DUE?We will accept the letters until February 15. It is important that the letters are received by then so that they can accompany your application when they assigned for review.

DO YOU FUND FOREIGN NATIONALS?Yes, if they are working in a US lab.

DOES THE FUND PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON THE APPLICATIONS? No we do not provide feedback.
