A former JCC Fellow returns to his roots

Former JCC fellow Haifan Lin (1990-1993) joins the BSA this year. “My research and career have benefited tremendously from the generous support of the JCC fellowship and eye-opening experiences that the JCC Fund provided,” says Lin, now Professor of Cell Biology and of Genetics and Director of the Yale Stem Cell Center. “I’m delighted to have this opportunity to pay back to the foundation and the JCC community by serving on its BSA.” Lin studies the self-renewing mecha- nism of stem cells, using Drosophila, mouse, and human stem cells and one of his key scientific contributions was the discovery of a novel class of non-coding small RNAs called PIWI-interacting RNAs. Lin received the 2010 NIH Director’s Pioneer Award.
